There’s no denying it, success doesn’t come easily to anyone, but who ever said anything worth having comes easily?

Success looks different for everyone, it comes in all shapes, sizes, and levels. But how do you ensure that you do succeed? There are no secrets to succeeding; a lot of hard work, persistence, and determination goes into it.

So, here are a few tips from the team at Trojan Fitness that will help you succeed:

Set yourself a goal.

An important aspect of succeeding is having a goal in mind. You need to know exactly what it is you want to achieve in order to be able to measure your progress and success. If you have an end goal you are working towards, whether it be getting in to an old pair of jeans, running a 5k PB, getting beach body ready, or simply wanting to boost your confidence, you have something to keep striving for.  Keeping this goal in mind at all times will help you stay motivated when things get tough by reminding you what it is you are working towards.

Enjoy what you do.

If you want to succeed at something, you need to enjoy it. There is no point forcing yourself to run if you hate running. There is no point forcing yourself to swim every morning if you detest swimming. Find what it is you enjoy and keep doing it. This way, achieving your goals won’t be so difficult as you will enjoy the journey along the way. Another way to add enjoyment is to include your friends. Take your friends on long power walks; before you know it, you’ve been nattering away forgetting that you’re actually exercising. Why not take a friend with you to your local gym, that way you won’t be inclined to pull out at the last minute as you won’t want to let them down. Training with someone in the gym can make hitting your targets and the journey to success so much more enjoyable.

A little bit of everything.

When success is something you are striving for, it is essential to understand that you can’t control everything, balance is key. As soon as you attempt to control every aspects of your life, the enjoyment is lost and you can become obsessive. If you are trying to eat healthily, eat healthily! But don’t deny yourself all your favourite treats. Allowing yourself a small bit of dark chocolate every evening or having one night a week where you can go out for dinner and enjoy it, will make your progression a lot more sustainable. Don’t cut back on everything, as this is definitely not sustainable. In order to be successful in the long run, you need to employ changes that you can keep doing forever. Don’t stop eating certain foods all together, just eat smarter. This will also prevent you from hitting a wall and binging. If you satisfy your cravings in moderation along the way, you’ll be more successful all round.

Focus on your own journey.

A dangerous cycle to get caught up in, and one that isn’t helped by the prevalence of social media, is comparing ourselves to other people. On social media, people look at though they are constantly flourishing; you don’t see the daily struggles that go on behind the scenes or the setbacks, but don’t let this affect you. It is imperative to remember that everyone progresses at different rates. We are all on our own journey of fitness, and the only journey that matters is yours. Success is all about self-belief and possessing the ability to shut yourself off from the progress or others.

So, when you may feel as though you’re not succeeding, or you aren’t sure where you’re heading, read these tips and don’t give up on your journey to success.
