Whether you’re stepping into the gym for the first time, or you’re an experienced veteran, all gym-goers benefit from a bit of expert advice every now and then.

Our new boutique Northwood gym opens its doors in 2022, and it doesn’t just contain high-quality equipment spread over two floors.

It also contains our team of personal trainers.

But just what does having personal trainers in a gym such as ours mean for your workouts? And how can it help take your fitness journey to the next level?

Let’s take a look.

You Always Use the Perfect Form

For inexperienced gym goers, it can feel daunting when stepping inside a room containing equipment you are unfamiliar with.

For example, step into our gym and you may be confronted by our standing cable machine.

If you’ve never used this machine before, it may be tough to know the ideal way to use it.

A vital part of performing a workout is keeping the correct form. If you’re using poor form, you are at a much higher risk of injury, and you may not be hitting the target muscle groups that you’re aiming for.

Having a personal trainer talking you through your exercises is a sure-fire way of getting the correct form every time.

Everything from lifting dumbbells to simply doing a press-up requires the correct form to be performed properly, so if you’re unsure and think you may be doing it wrong, maybe a personal trainer is the key to boosting your workouts.

And if you’re looking to grow your chest or glutes, check out our guides on how to perfect the relevant workouts.

personal trainerExtra Motivation to Push Your Body

We’ve all been there.

It’s been a long day at work and all you want to do is go home and lay on the sofa.

While this may be tempting, if you know that you have an appointment with a personal trainer, you feel much more obliged to lace up your trainers and head to the gym.

Once there, you will gather the motivation from your trainer to get through your exercise.

And believe me, you’ll get home and feel much better than you would have if you decided to skip it.

Not only motivation, but a trainer also provides accountability, and this is proven to make more people stick to their workout routine than if they were without.

A personal trainer will be by your side forcing you to push out that final rep or to keep running on the treadmill for that extra five minutes.

Not only that, if you are part of a group class that is being led by a trainer, this is also scientifically proven to boost your energy and inspire you to push your body and mind to reach the end of the workout.

Build a Workout Schedule to Maximise your Gym Time

There are many different types of people in the gym.

Some run from station to station trying to fit in as many reps as they can. Some prefer to take their time between workouts.

No matter which style you prefer, a personal trainer will be able to build a schedule that suits you.

Why is this important?

Well, most people live busy lives, and finding the time to hit the gym on a night between putting the kids to bed, cooking tea, and walking the dog can be tricky.

If you only have half an hour, or if you have two hours, making sure your workout is making the most of your time is vital.

A personal trainer gets to know your body and listens to your goals.

With this information, they can form a plan to fit in the right workouts, at the right speeds, to keep your body transformation on track and make sure you avoid gym burnout.

It is easy to walk around a gym without a plan and end up wasting precious time, so by allowing a personal trainer to point you in the right direction can save you time, money, and help you pick up speed on your fitness journey.

You get Information Outside the Gym

Undertaking a body transformation takes a lot more than just lifting a few weights every now and then.

You have to be dedicated.

If you’re looking to lose weight, or you’re trying to build your biceps, what you do outside of the gym is also vital.

A personal trainer can talk you through your workouts whilst also giving advice on how to behave outside of the gym.

Things like keeping the right diet, and how best to recover after a tough session are just as important as the workout itself.

For example, if you go on a five-mile run and then eat a big bar of chocolate, when it comes to the end of the week you may find you’re not even in a calorie deficit and therefore not losing weight.

If you work on your arms seven days a week, you could soon find yourself picking up an injury as you’re overworking.

There are some people who believe you can ‘run off a bad diet’, but science has proven this to be far from the truth.

Gaining expert advice from people who know exactly what to do to keep your body transformation on track can be a big boost.

Your fitness journey doesn’t start and end at the gym, so stay on track 24/7 with some extra advice.

If you have strong arms, but your cardio is lacking, it can be easy to focus on strength-training and nothing else.

And hey, if the aim is to build strength in your arms, that may be fine.

But if you want to lose weight, you may need to pluck up the courage to face your weaknesses head-on.

When heading to the gym alone, it is tempting to avoid the areas where you feel weakest, but these may be the areas you need to focus on the most.

A body transformation usually involves working on multiple areas of your body. From legs, core, and arms to cardiovascular health.

It may even involve working on your mental health and giving you the motivation and desire to keep on pushing.

A personal trainer will take a full assessment of your body. This will involve pinpointing your weaknesses and your strengths.

They will guide you in turning any weak point into a strength as the weeks and months of training go by, and make sure you’re never missing an area of your body.

And yes, that means no more skipping leg day!

They Get You Familiar with the Equipment

As we mentioned earlier, it isn’t always easy to jump straight into a new gym and get to work on equipment you may be unfamiliar with.

And that’s another reason having a personal trainer walking around with you is a big plus.

If you don’t know your dumbbell from your slam ball, then it is always a big benefit to get an introduction to the equipment you are about to be using.

What muscles will a bench press work on?

What is the best equipment to use if you’re looking to strengthen your back?

You recently had a leg injury, what should you use to not risk injury further?

All of these questions can be answered, and the perfect machine can be highlighted by a trainer.

This also helps in making the most of your time during a workout. If you want to work on your core, rather than spending a while searching for the perfect equipment, the trainer will already have a plan devised.

There are many different types of workout equipment (we have regular dumbbells and hex dumbbells for example) and knowing the best ones to use, and how to set the equipment to the perfect weights for you at the current stage of your fitness journey, is vital in ensuring a safe and efficient workout.

Keep Track of your Results

Finally, when all the workouts throughout the week or month are done, and you step on the scales or take a look at yourself in the mirror, you are hoping to see some progress.

While the speed of progress depends on many different variables, such as the level of fitness you’re already at, your weight levels, or your age, it is important to keep track of how you are doing.

Maybe you’re not hitting your targets? If so, it’s important to try and work out why.

Maybe you’re ahead of schedule? This can provide a huge boost to your motivation and leave you eager to keep working out more.

Being on a fitness journey isn’t easy. It takes sweat, hard work, and dedication, but the feeling when you begin to see results makes it all worth it.

So where does a personal trainer come into this?

Well, at regular intervals they will perform their own tests to keep track of your journey.

Using the latest fitness technology, a trainer will spend some time discussing how things are going, and how things can improve.

Knowing you’re on the right track is important when undergoing a body transformation, and a personal trainer is there at all times to keep checking in and making sure you are.
